March 1st 2012, 6 30 pm : A visually exhilarating choreographer , dance guru and master known to create magic with his knowledge Natyacharya Guru K. Kalyanasundaram celebrates his 80th birthday on March 1st 2012 . On this prestigious occasion The Kala Mandir, will pay a tribute to the renowned master, at The Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Auditorium. A grand felicitation function is being organized which will include great artists like Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj, famous danseuse Dr Padma Subrahmanyam and musicologist Sri B.M. Sundaram among many other eminent personalities.
March 1st 2012 : This function will be followed by a film called 'The Legacy of the Thanjavur Parampara' narrating a saga of eight generations spread over 400 years, a film which will traverse the journey of Bharathanatyam, the legacy of the parampara, great works from Master's career and a lot more.
March 1st 2012 : The master teacher and Natyacharya will be presented with a beautiful dance presentation by Viji Prakash which will be performed by her daughter Mythili Prakash. The performance will include specially choreographed items taught by Master to Viji Prakash that will showcase the living traditions of this Nattuvanar family.
Sri Rajarajeswari presents Shruti Javali in a solo dance presentation at the Natyanjali Festival choreographed and conducted by Guru Harikrishna Kalyanasundaram.
